Counsellor Profile: Sonia Dixon

Personal Introduction

Hi there, I’m Sonia,

I’m a person-centred counsellor with over 20 years’ experience working closely with people and the issues they face as a result of trauma and difficulties in their lives.

About Me

I’m the head of service here at Rainbow Counselling, and a newly qualified counsellor.

I work with an approach based on care, empathy, non-judgment, acceptance, and a deep sense of regard for others.

My approach focuses on the capacity of human beings, to offer a relationship of such quality to each other that transformation can occur.

I have worked with various forms of abuse, mainly presenting in relationships, such as physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.

For many years I worked in prison settings supporting individuals to understand the links between experiences of childhood trauma and violence. I also have extensive experience working with individuals, families and communities affected by substance use, and with those experiencing multiple disadvantages because of complex mental health.

Being alongside others in their journey I have learned how my life makes the most sense and how best I find my own place in the world.

I look forward to working with you.
